Bonnie is by far our sweetest Bactrian Camel on the farm. She is a joy to have around and she usually won’t let you in the barn without smooching on you. Bonnie is not the best mother in the world, but has become a better mother with each calf she has. Unfortunately, Bonnie has only thrown bull calves, but they are always the sweetest calves. Bonnie is a favorite of everyone who visits the farm.
The most important management issue when raising camels in Michigan is parasite control. It seems that camels are more susceptible to parasites than traditional livestock and we try to be very diligent with Bonnie, in particular.
We were expecting a calf out of Bonnie this summer, but for whatever reason, she does not appear to be bred.
